Promoting Pure Islam Key to Countering Extremist Movements

The head of Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, Hojatoleslam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour, says strengthening the discourse of pure, moderate Islam is the most effective strategy for confronting extremist currents engineered by Western powers.

Hawzah News Agency- The head of Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, Hojatoleslam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with a high-ranking Georgian Muslim delegation led by Sheikh Faeg Nabiyev, head of the General Administration of Muslims of Georgia. The delegation—comprised of Sunni muftis from eastern and western Georgia as well as senior religious officials—visited Iran at the invitation of the Assembly for the Proximity of Islamic Denominations.

Imanipour welcomed the delegation, calling Iran a “second homeland” for the region’s Muslim communities. He stressed the deep civilizational and historical bonds between the Iranian and Georgian nations, noting that Iran’s policy of neighborhood and regional proximity is not tactical but a foundational pillar of its foreign policy.

Islamophobia as a Reaction to the Rise of Islamic Thought

Touching on rising Islamophobia across the West, the head of Iran’s Islamic Culture and Relations Organization said such campaigns stem from fear of the growing influence of Islamic thought at the global level.

“The spread of Islam’s intellectual and spiritual authority is what the enemies cannot tolerate,” he said, emphasizing that Western governments continue to invest in distorting Islamic teachings.

ISIS: A Western Project

The Iranian official condemned extremist outfits such as Daesh (ISIS), describing them as direct products of Western planning aimed at undermining Islam from within.

He praised the Georgian Muslim administration for advancing a balanced and intelligent religious approach, and said that promoting authentic Islamic teachings is the “most principled response” to extremist plots.

Imanipour further underlined the importance of unity among Islamic schools of thought, calling it the backbone of any future global role for moderate Islam. He linked this vision to the ideas of the late Imam Khomeini, whose worldview, he said, placed issues such as Palestine at the heart of the Muslim world’s collective conscience.

Gaza: Unmasking Global Arrogance

Referring to the recent Israeli assault on Gaza, Imanipour said the tragedy must be understood not only for its loss of innocent lives but also for its far-reaching strategic consequences.

“Never has the true face of global arrogance and the Zionist regime been so openly exposed,” he said, adding that decades of attempts to depict Israel as a victim have now collapsed.
“It is the responsibility of all Muslims to preserve this new atmosphere of awareness.”

Cultural and Quranic Cooperation with Georgia

Imanipour expressed satisfaction with the Georgian delegation’s report on Quranic programs—including training courses, Quranic gatherings, and the development of Quranic centers—and reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to support and expand such initiatives.

He stressed the need for Muslim communities in Georgia to gain stronger institutional standing so they can serve as constructive and recognized components within Georgian society.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Imanipour highlighted the importance of joint scientific, academic, and cultural initiatives, including collaborations on global issues such as the environment, human rights, and artificial intelligence. He also reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to help promote Persian-language education in Georgia.

The visiting Georgian muftis presented detailed accounts of growing public interest in Quranic sciences in Georgia and ongoing efforts to expand religious education across the country.
